Political Awareness & Involvement

Six weeks after Delta Sigma Theta was founded in 1913, our Founders marched in the Women’s Suffrage March in Washington, D.C. It was the Sorority’s first public act, and it set the tone for more than a century of service and social action.

That same commitment continues today. Delta Sigma Theta is nonpartisan, but we believe strongly in an informed and engaged community. Voting, understanding the issues that affect us, and knowing how to take part in the civic process are all part of that work.

Here in Slidell, the chapter supports that mission through voter registration efforts, voter education, civic engagement, and opportunities for community members to learn more about the issues that matter to them. We also participate in national voter-engagement efforts, including Delta’s Voting in 3D initiative, which encourages people to discover the issues, make informed decisions, and take action.

Our work isn’t about telling people who to vote for. It’s about making sure people have the information and resources they need to make their own decisions and have their voices heard.
